Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private-sector thermal power producer, has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) for the supply of 2,400 MW of electricity from a proposed greenfield ultra supercritical power plant at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district, Bihar. The agreement follows the Letter of Award (LoA) issued by BSPGCL on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL) in August 2025.
The new project, to be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, will comprise three units of 800 MW each with an estimated investment of around US$ 3 billion. Adani Power secured the project by offering the lowest tariff of ₹6.075 per kWh. Coal supply has been allocated under the SHAKTI Policy of the Government of India, ensuring fuel security for the plant. The project is expected to create 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and approximately 3,000 jobs once operational, with full commissioning targeted within 60 months.
Adani Power, part of the diversified Adani portfolio, currently operates an installed capacity of 18,110 MW across twelve thermal power plants located in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu, along with a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
