NTPC Green Energy and VOC Port Authority Sign MoU to Advance Green Hydrogen Mobility

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VO Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) to promote green energy technologies, with a focus on green hydrogen mobility at VOC Port. The MoU was exchanged between Kishore Kumar Hota, CGM, NTPC, and A Ganesan, CME, VOCPA in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Geeta Jeevan, MLA Nainar Nagendran, Secretary (MoPSW) TK Ramachandran, VOCPA Chairman Susanta Kumar Purohit, and senior officials from the Government of Tamil Nadu, NTPC, and VOCPA.

As part of the collaboration, NGEL will set up a green hydrogen fuelling station at VOC Port along with hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine trucks for port operations. This initiative is expected to gradually replace fossil fuel-based trucks with clean alternatives, strengthening decarbonisation efforts and energy security.

NTPC has already implemented multiple green hydrogen projects, including the blending initiative at Surat, Gujarat, operational for over two years, and mobility pilots in Leh (Ladakh), Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), and Kandla Port (Gujarat). NGEL is also developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and has set a target of achieving 60 GW renewable energy capacity by 2032 with integrated energy storage solutions.
