Ester Industries Limited, a prominent Indian producer of polyester films and specialty polymers, has announced that its joint venture, Ester Loop Infinite Technologies Private Limited (ELITe), has finalized an agreement for land acquisition near Surat, Gujarat. The site will be home to the country’s first large-scale chemical recycling plant dedicated to converting polyester textile waste into high-quality recycled PET resin.
ELITe is a partnership between Ester Industries and Loop Industries, a company recognized for its technology that enables the production of 100% recycled PET plastic and polyester fiber. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹1,600 crore.
This initiative represents a major step forward in establishing a circular economy for polyester materials in India. The facility will initially process up to 70,000 metric tons of waste annually, with the infrastructure in place to scale operations by an additional 100,000 metric tons in the future.
Following extensive due diligence, the land acquisition has been completed within Gujarat’s Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR). This location was strategically selected for its close access to textile waste sources, a skilled industrial workforce, and strong logistics infrastructure—including proximity to a deep-sea port to facilitate exports. The recycling plant is designed to operate using around 80% renewable energy and biofuels, and the recycled PET resin it produces is expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional petroleum-based PET.
Arvind Singhania, Chairman of Ester Industries, commented “This land acquisition marks a pivotal moment in our journey to advance sustainable manufacturing in India. Gujarat’s strong textile ecosystem makes it the ideal location for this facility. Our goal is to significantly cut emissions, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and build a closed-loop supply chain for textiles and packaging materials.”
This development paves the way for construction to begin, and for the integration of advanced chemical recycling technology in the Indian market. The Surat site offers strong infrastructure, supply chain advantages, and growth potential—positioning ELITe to become a key player in the global sustainable polyester industry.
