On the second day of SEMICON India 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, visited exhibitors and engaged with innovators, underscoring India’s growing strength in the semiconductor industry. Over the past four years, SEMICON India has become a vital platform for advancing technology collaborations and showcasing breakthroughs in the semiconductor ecosystem.
During his visit, PM Modi toured the ‘Startup Mitra Pavilion’, an initiative of IESA’s Startup Mitra program, designed to promote innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth in India’s Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector. The pavilion featured groundbreaking solutions from emerging startups, offering them a unique opportunity to connect with industry leaders, venture capitalists, and global OEMs.
Ashok Chandak, CEO & President of SEMI India and IESA, explained that Startup Mitra provides structured support to young companies—including mentorship, guidance on government policies, assistance with IPR and patent filing, and access to investors. Member companies of IESA and SEMI are also extending tangible support by offering components, testing equipment, and tools to help startups accelerate their projects. He added, “We fully resonate with the Honourable Prime Minister’s emphasis on simplifying communication, ensuring that society at large can understand and benefit from technological innovations.”
The Prime Minister congratulated the organizers and interacted with several innovators, including Vrinda Kapoor (3rd iTech), Pratap Narayan Singh (Vervesemi Microelectronics), Gautam Kumar Singh (Fermionic Design), Anantha Kinnal (Calligo Technologies), and Jyothis Indirabhai (Netrasemi). He also showed keen interest in demonstrations related to strategic defence applications and a high-performance computing chip capable of reducing energy consumption by nearly 80%, aligning with his commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
In addition to startups, PM Modi explored innovations from major global players such as LAM Research, Micron India, Tokyo Electron, KLA-Tencor, Tata Electronics, CG Semi, IBM, ASML, Kaynes Technologies, Applied Materials, Delta Electronics, and Disco Hi-Tec. He also visited the country pavilions of Japan, Singapore, Korea, and Malaysia, which showcased their contributions to the global semiconductor supply chain.
The three-day event features over 1,275 booths, with participation from 48 countries, drawing 20,000+ attendees, including 2,500 global delegates, 50+ CXOs, and 350+ exhibitors. SEMICON India 2025 continues to spotlight India’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing, innovation, and investment.
