Websol Energy System Limited has announced a major expansion of its solar manufacturing capacity, approving the addition of 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module lines in two phases through its wholly owned subsidiary. The project will involve an investment of around ₹3,000 crore. The company currently operates a 600 MW solar cell line and 550 MW module line at its Falta facility in West Bengal, running at about 90% utilisation. An additional 600 MW cell line (Phase II), funded entirely through internal accruals, is scheduled to become operational in October 2025, taking total capacity to 1.2 GW.

Websol Energy System has unveiled its next phase of growth with a large-scale expansion of its manufacturing capacity. Under this plan, the company will establish a 2 GW solar cell line and a 2 GW solar module line by June 2027 as part of Phase III. This marks a significant step in scaling up its operations to meet the growing demand for renewable energy solutions in India.

Following this, Phase IV will further add another 2 GW solar cell line and 2 GW module line by June 2028. With these additions, Websol aims to strengthen its position in the solar manufacturing sector while contributing meaningfully to India’s renewable energy targets, enhancing its ability to deliver advanced, high-efficiency solar products.

The additional solar cell lines will be based on Topcon technology. Financing for Phases III and IV will come from internal accruals and lending facilities. Once complete, Websol’s production capacity will reach 5.2 GW of solar cells and 4.5 GW of modules by 2028, strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing base in line with the national target of 280 GW solar power by 2030. The Board has also approved a stock split in the ratio of 1:10, subject to shareholder approval at the AGM on September 29, 2025.

Commenting on the development, Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director, Websol Energy, said the expansion marks a new growth phase for the company: “From being among India’s earliest solar cell and module manufacturers, we are now scaling into multi-gigawatt capacity with advanced technologies and an integrated cell-to-module value chain. This investment will boost efficiency, support India’s clean energy goals, and position Websol as a leading player in the solar sector.”

Founded as one of India’s first solar PV manufacturers, Websol Energy produces high-efficiency mono-PERC cells and modules, supplying both domestic and international markets. Its integrated manufacturing model, strong client base, and policy support continue to drive its long-term strategy in clean energy.
