The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in collaboration with the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), announced plans to establish task forces to accelerate progress toward India’s renewable energy goals for 2030. The initiative was discussed at a high-level roundtable convened by IWTMA, where policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders came together to outline strategies for achieving 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030.
The proposed task forces will assess existing policies, streamline processes, and drive faster execution of wind power projects to meet the growing demand for clean energy. “India has a unique advantage in wind energy, with abundant resources and strong manufacturing capabilities. Setting up dedicated task forces will ensure that the country not only achieves but also surpasses its 100 GW wind energy target by 2030, while strengthening its position as a global wind manufacturing hub,” said Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE.
“We are seeing a surge in demand for wind energy due to its role in reducing the cost of round-the-clock renewable power. Today’s discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, industry, and regulators to accelerate execution. The formation of task forces is a significant step forward in advancing India’s wind agenda,” said Girish Tanti, Chairman, IWTMA. The development reinforces wind energy’s central role in India’s renewable energy roadmap and its contribution to the national target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
Founded in 1998, the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) is the apex body of India’s wind energy sector. The association works closely with policymakers, investors, and stakeholders to create an enabling environment for the growth of wind power and has been instrumental in positioning the sector as a key driver of India’s clean energy transition.
