Mahindra Plans New Greenfield Plant, Expands Service Network to Meet Rising Demand

Mahindra & Mahindra is in the process of identifying land for a new greenfield manufacturing facility as part of its strategy to boost production for both domestic and export markets. The company recently unveiled its modular, multi-energy NU IQ platform, which will underpin a new SUV range with the first launch expected in 2027. This platform is designed to address untapped market opportunities in India and overseas, complementing the automaker’s existing product pipeline.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Auto Division, said the company plans to raise output at its Chakan plant by 2.4 lakh units but will need additional capacity, prompting the search for new land parcels. Mahindra has already expressed interest in acquiring 350 acres in Igatpuri, Maharashtra, where it operates facilities alongside Nashik. The automaker has set a goal of achieving a 10 lakh annual EV production capacity by 2027.

Alongside capacity expansion, Mahindra is placing strong emphasis on strengthening its service network. The company currently has about 1,100 service outlets and aims to add 150–200 outlets annually, with expansion covering metros, semi-urban, and rural areas. Gollagunta stressed that service infrastructure is as critical as dealership growth, noting efforts to increase service capacity at existing locations to match the company’s 10–15% annual growth in vehicle parc.

Mahindra, a leader in the SUV segment with market share rising from 11% to 27%, expects 15–20% volume growth this year. According to Gollagunta, a healthy monsoon and festive demand will further support sales momentum, particularly in rural markets where the brand continues to hold strong appeal.

Established in 1945, the Mahindra Group is a leading global federation of companies, employing over 260,000 people across more than 100 countries. In India, it holds strong leadership positions in farm equipment, utility SUVs, information technology, and financial services, and is recognized as the world’s largest tractor manufacturer by volume.

The Group also has a significant footprint in sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality, and real estate. Mahindra is committed to global leadership in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, with a focus on promoting rural prosperity and improving urban living. Its mission is to create lasting, positive impact for communities and stakeholders, empowering them to progress and thrive.
