Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited (AWHCL), a prominent player in India’s waste management industry, annunced a major breakthrough through its subsidiary, Antony Lara Enviro Solutions Pvt Ltd, which has secured two Waste-to-Energy (WTE) projects in Andhra Pradesh, each with a capacity of approximately 15 megawatts. The combined value of these projects stands at around ₹3,200 crore.
Awarded by the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd, the projects are set to be developed over a construction timeline of 24 months, starting from the date of concession signing, PPA execution, or land transfer—whichever comes later. Once operational, the projects will run under a 20-year concession agreement, during which the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) will purchase the generated power at ₹8.10 per unit. The facilities are aimed at servicing the Kurnool and YSR Kadapa regions.
Each site will feature a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) designed to handle mixed municipal waste before energy conversion. Using automated sorting and separation systems, the MRF will extract recyclables and segregate organics for dedicated treatment. The remaining non-recyclable fraction will be refined into a fuel feedstock for thermal energy conversion.
This feedstock will then be processed in high-efficiency incineration units to produce renewable electricity. The setup is designed to divert thousands of tonnes of solid waste daily from landfills, significantly cutting methane and carbon emissions while contributing to India’s renewable energy goals and the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Once fully commissioned, these projects are expected to increase Antony Waste’s clean energy portfolio to approximately 44 MW, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable waste solutions and clean power generation. This award marks Antony Group’s entry into Southern India for WTE operations, expanding its geographic footprint and enhancing its role in waste processing infrastructure.
Jose Jacob, Chairman and Managing Director of AWHCL commented “We are proud to have been chosen for these landmark initiatives in Andhra Pradesh. These projects demonstrate our engineering strengths, operational expertise, and strong environmental commitment. By turning waste into energy, we’re addressing pressing challenges while contributing to a cleaner future for the region.”
