Oswal Pumps has secured a significant contract worth ₹442 crore from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the supply and deployment of 14,787 solar-powered water pumping systems across the state. The scope of the project includes not only supplying the off-grid direct current solar pumps but also overseeing their installation, testing, and commissioning at various designated agricultural sites in Maharashtra.

In a regulatory filing, the company announced that it has received an official letter of award under the PM-KUSUM B scheme, also known in Maharashtra as the Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana. This empanelment allows Oswal Pumps to participate in the state’s push for cleaner, decentralized energy solutions for farmers.

The contract is valid for a one-year period, with each installation expected to be completed within 60 days from the issuance of individual work orders or necessary clearances. Launched in 2019, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) aims to bolster renewable energy adoption in the agriculture sector. The scheme initially targeted the installation of 30,800 MW of solar capacity by 2022, backed by central financial support of over ₹34,400 crore.

In light of delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the government extended the scheme’s implementation timeline to March 2026. The PM-KUSUM scheme has been designed to promote clean energy in agriculture by integrating solar power solutions across different applications. Under Component A, the initiative focuses on establishing 10,000 MW of small-scale solar power plants, enabling farmers and rural communities to contribute to renewable energy generation while ensuring a reliable source of power.

In addition, the program emphasizes solar-based irrigation support. Component B aims to deploy 14 lakh standalone solar pumps, reducing dependence on diesel and conventional electricity for irrigation. Meanwhile, Component C targets the solarisation of 35 lakh existing grid-connected pumps, helping farmers cut costs and ensuring sustainable energy use in agriculture. Together, these measures are expected to boost energy security, cut emissions, and improve farm incomes.

The ₹442 crore order awarded to Oswal Pumps falls under Component B, which focuses on off-grid solutions to improve energy access and irrigation reliability for farmers in remote and underserved regions. This contract marks a major milestone in Maharashtra’s renewable energy transition and strengthens Oswal Pumps’ position in the solar water pumping segment.
