Wipro Limited, a global technology services and consulting firm, has announced the successful delivery of a large-scale ERP transformation for AusNet, Victoria’s largest diversified energy network operator. The program, implemented through RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, replaced legacy systems with an integrated cloud platform and was completed ahead of schedule.
The transformation establishes a secure, scalable and future-ready digital infrastructure for AusNet, improving operational efficiency and enabling real-time decision-making. “This was more than a technology upgrade – it was a chance for the company to work together towards a common goal,” said Chris Galland, Chief Technology Officer, AusNet. “The outcome is a faster, smarter platform, ready for the future.”
The project, completed in just 18 months, is being positioned as a benchmark for ERP upgrades in the utilities sector. It included the deployment of customised geospatial mapping tools and advanced asset management solutions on handheld devices, boosting field productivity even in areas with limited connectivity.
Ketan Panchal, Managing Director and Country Head for Australia at Wipro, highlighted the collaborative effort between AusNet, SAP, and Wipro, stating that it demonstrates the company’s strength in guiding clients through complex digital transformations and delivering measurable business outcomes.
Angela Colantuono, President and Managing Director, SAP Australia and New Zealand, noted that the implementation provides AusNet with a modern digital foundation to meet rising energy demands, improve efficiency and accelerate the shift towards cleaner energy.
The transition required coordination with more than 1,600 users and over 50 energy retailers. Interim processes were jointly designed by Wipro, SAP, and AusNet to ensure uninterrupted customer service during the cutover period.
Wipro Limited, established in 1945 by Mohamed Premji as Western India Vegetable Products Limited, has evolved into a prominent Indian multinational corporation specializing in information technology, consulting, and business process services. Headquartered in Bengaluru, India, Wipro operates in over 60 countries, delivering a broad spectrum of services including cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, Wipro reported gross revenues of ₹225.0 billion (approximately $2.63 billion USD) for the quarter, marking a 1.3% year-over-year increase. The net income for this period was ₹35.7 billion (around $417.8 million USD), reflecting a 25.9% growth compared to the previous year. Despite these gains, Wipro projected a sequential revenue decline of 1.5% to 3.5% for the April-June 2025 quarter, attributing this forecast to ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties and cautious client spending.
As of March 31, 2024, Wipro employed approximately 234,000 individuals worldwide, experiencing a 6.4% decrease from the previous year. The company has expanded its capabilities and market presence through strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of Capco, a global management and technology consultancy, for $1.45 billion in 2021.
Leadership transitions have been notable, with Srini Pallia appointed as CEO in April 2024, succeeding Thierry Delaporte. Wipro continues to focus on innovation and client-centric solutions, aiming to strengthen its position as a leading global IT services provider.
