Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and one of the top five silver producers globally, marked International Youth Day by celebrating the passion, innovation, and leadership of its young workforce. With 62% of employees under the age of 35, the company is challenging perceptions in the traditionally conservative metals and mining sector, showing that its future lies in technology, sustainability, and dynamic young talent.
To commemorate the occasion, the company launched Echoes of Tomorrow, a campaign featuring a brand film that showcases how its emerging leaders are transforming mining into a technology-driven, future-ready industry. From deploying AI-based mineral exploration tools to advancing sustainability initiatives, young professionals at Hindustan Zinc are driving engineering excellence, environmental stewardship, digitalization, and automation—making mining safer, smarter, and more sustainable.
“Our strength lies in being young at heart and agile in action,” said Arun Misra, CEO, Hindustan Zinc. “We combine the stability and scale of a global leader with the adaptability of a new-age enterprise. By fostering continuous learning, we ensure our people have the skills to innovate, lead, and thrive in a rapidly changing world. This International Youth Day, we celebrate our employees as catalysts who are advancing technology, sustainability, and a better future for both the nation and the planet.”
Hindustan Zinc’s people-first approach is reflected in its progressive workplace policies and strong focus on capability building. In FY24, the company recorded over 1.2 lakh hours of training, equipped employees with future-ready skills, and increased female representation in its workforce to 25%—with a target of 30% by 2030. Initiatives such as structured mentoring, leadership development programmes, ESOPs, internal job postings, and the V-Build leadership pathway are supported by inclusive policies including spouse hiring, flexible work hours, childcare sabbaticals, physical and mental health leave, and monthly no-questions-asked leave for women employees.
By empowering young professionals to lead on technology, sustainability, and community initiatives, Hindustan Zinc is not only shaping the next phase of the mining industry but also setting new benchmarks for modern, people-focused enterprises. Recognised by S&P Global as the most sustainable metals and mining company for the second consecutive year, the company continues to advance its Net Zero 2050 goal, develop low-carbon zinc products like EcoZen, and deliver large-scale social impact programmes benefiting over 2.3 million people.
