Calderys has commissioned the first production line at its CAPES facility in Odisha, dedicated to next-generation acidic monolithics, and announced the addition of a tap-hole clay line, further broadening the site’s original scope. These developments mark major milestones in the facility’s journey to becoming a leading manufacturing hub for high-performance refractories and steel casting fluxes in the region.
Once fully operational, CAPES will house six advanced lines producing acidic and basic monolithics, acidic and basic bricks, ready-shaped products, steel casting fluxes, and tap-hole clays, catering to India’s rapidly growing industrial sectors. Since May 2025, the newly commissioned acidic monolithics line—equipped with advanced mixers, automated batching systems, and precision-controlled processes—has been delivering products with exceptional chemical resistance and thermal stability. Supported by rigorous in-house testing and quality control, these refractories are already serving customers across India with quick delivery and reliable solutions for high-temperature, corrosive environments.
The tap-hole clay line, to be built on an additional five-acre plot, will produce high-plasticity, high-performance clays tailored for furnace operations, ensuring consistent tapping and durability. This addition complements the five other lines under development, increasing Calderys’ capacity and agility in supplying India’s iron and steel industry with locally manufactured, high-quality solutions.
“The commissioning of our first line and the launch of new sales are landmark achievements for CAPES,” said Michel Cornelissen, President & CEO of Calderys. “This progress underscores our commitment to India’s fast-growing high-temperature industrial sectors.”
Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, noted, “We are ahead of schedule since breaking ground. The basic monolithic line—our second planned line—will be operational in August. With cutting-edge manufacturing, strict quality standards, and a skilled team, we’re enabling our customers to operate smarter, cleaner, and more competitively.”
Strategically located near major steel plants, the CAPES site strengthens Calderys’ presence in eastern India, reducing lead times, streamlining supply chains, and enhancing customer support while delivering advanced refractory solutions aligned with domestic market needs. Calderys has taken a significant step in its global growth strategy with the rollout of its CAPES project in Odisha, India — set to be the world’s largest single-site greenfield facility for refractories and steel casting fluxes.
Spread across 45 acres, the plant will feature six advanced production lines and state-of-the-art testing facilities, substantially increasing the company’s ability to cater to India’s rising industrial requirements, particularly in the eastern and southern regions. Although full-scale operations are scheduled for the second half of 2026, the site has already commenced production with one manufacturing line. Updates on the CAPES project can be found on Calderys’ official website.
