The Tokyo Fire Department has signed a new agreement with Airbus Helicopters to acquire an additional H225 aircraft, following a competitive tender process. This move is part of the department’s broader plan to upgrade its aerial fleet, replacing older models to strengthen response capabilities in missions such as firefighting, search and rescue, emergency medical transport, and disaster relief.

Jean-Luc Alfonsi, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan, acknowledged the long-standing partnership between Airbus and the Tokyo Fire Department, which spans nearly 60 years. He emphasized the department’s confidence in the H225 platform, citing its dependable performance and adaptability across demanding environments.

The newly ordered H225 is tailored for rapid-response missions, featuring advanced systems to assist in locating individuals during rescue operations and equipment for in-flight emergency care. Its integrated water tank allows for quick deployment during fire emergencies, enhancing the department’s aerial firefighting effectiveness.

Since launching its helicopter operations in 1967 with the Allouette III, the Tokyo Fire Department has relied on Airbus aircraft to support public safety from the air. Today, its rotorcraft fleet includes three H225s and three AS365s, all playing critical roles in protecting Tokyo’s residents.

The H225, part of the Super Puma series, is known for its strong operational range, heavy-lift capacity, and advanced flight systems that improve safety and ease pilot workload. The aircraft is especially suited for complex missions and harsh environments. In Japan, 24 H225 helicopters are in service with defense and public service operators, supporting a wide array of operations including rescue missions, aerial firefighting, high-level transportation, and logistics.
