The Ministry of Heavy Industries, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Minister HD Kumaraswamy, has officially launched the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047). This strategic roadmap is designed to align with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, known as ‘Viksit Bharat’. Building on the success of previous automotive plans, AMP 2047 focuses on innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability to position India as a global leader in the automotive sector by the centenary of independence.

The first meeting of AMP 2047’s sub-committees took place to establish the framework and goals. Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “The 2047 vision is a roadmap with clear, actionable targets for growth, export expansion, and industry evolution. Our focus should be on enhancing India’s position in the global automotive market through innovation and superior quality.”

Representatives from key ministries including Power, Road Transport, Commerce, Petroleum and Natural Gas, as well as industry bodies like SIAM, ACMA, CII, and FICCI, joined forces at the meeting. Together, they launched an industry-driven effort to define the path forward for AMP 2047.

AMP 2047 is a collaborative initiative that brings together Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), auto component makers, policy experts, academia, and end users. The focus will be on overcoming challenges such as advancing technology and developing robust charging infrastructure. Seven specialized sub-committees, composed of experts from various sectors, will work together to create a detailed roadmap with milestones set for 2030, 2037, and 2047.

Under the leadership of Minister HD Kumaraswamy, the Ministry is dedicated to creating a self-reliant, innovative, and sustainable automotive ecosystem. Multiple sub-committee meetings will continue to refine and consolidate ideas, with the final plan being presented to the Apex Committee, led by Kamran Rizvi, Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The Ministry expresses its gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions and looks forward to their continued involvement in achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
