Shree Cement Ltd, a prominent player in India’s cement industry, has successfully commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power facility at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand. Positioned adjacent to its existing cement plant, this new installation marks a major step in the company’s strategy to scale up renewable energy usage and reduce its carbon footprint.

With this expansion, the Roorkee facility’s solar capacity has increased sevenfold—from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp. Company-wide, Shree Cement now operates a total solar capacity of 293.5 MWp, underscoring its commitment to cleaner manufacturing and environmental responsibility in the cement sector.

Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement, stated, “Environmental stewardship is central to our operations. The new solar facility at Roorkee reflects our ongoing efforts to cut carbon emissions, enhance energy security, and support broader sustainability goals. These initiatives also generate local employment and promote inclusive regional development.”

Built with an investment of approximately ₹16 crore, the plant is expected to reduce dependence on conventional grid electricity and help offset nearly 6,500 metric tonnes of CO₂ annually. This development represents another step forward in Shree Cement’s journey toward greater energy independence and long-term ecological balance.
