Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt Ltd, a prominent name in the frozen desserts sector across South India, is boosting its production capacity to meet the rising appetite for its products in Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa. Currently operating at 1.25 lakh litres per day with an annual turnover of ₹300 crore, the company is building on decades of experience, strong regional presence, and steady expansion to strengthen its position in the Indian ice cream industry. Originating as a small dairy initiative in the late 1980s, Hangyo has grown into a full-scale dairy and ice cream brand, co-founded in 1989 by Dinesh Pai under the banner of Srikrishna Milks Pvt Ltd, Karnataka’s first private dairy venture.

In response to the need for localized milk sourcing and processing, the company opened its first plant in Jamkhandi in 1993. It expanded rapidly to include Udupi, Goa, and other regions, adding a value-added production unit in Heroor. A major milestone arrived in 1997 when Dinesh Pai and his brother Pradeep Pai introduced softee ice creams to Mangalore after a business trip to Australia. The product’s popularity sparked the creation of Hangyo Softees—a regional franchise model that grew to over 50 outlets. To cater to demand for hard ice cream varieties, Hangyo established a 1,000-litre production line in Heroor and has since executed multiple upgrades. In 2012, the company completed a greenfield plant in Kirwatti, a modern facility with 20,000 litres per day capacity and advanced machinery imported from China, enabling a broad product range including cups, sticks, and novelties.

Dinesh Pai, who has led the business for over 30 years, continues to drive strategy and growth as Executive Chairman. His active leadership has ensured the company stays aligned with market changes while adopting international practices from trade events like ANUGA in Germany and the Ice Cream Expo in Italy. With a strong supply chain, increasing demand, and an expanding portfolio, Hangyo is preparing to grow further into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, backed by investments in product development and logistics.

“Our mission has always been to offer premium dairy and ice cream products to Indian families, while upholding our farmer-first principles,” said Mr Pai. “We remain focused on quality, innovation, and long-term growth as we step into the next phase of our journey.”

Established in 1997 by the Pai brothers, Hangyo began with a single softee outlet in Mangaluru. It has since grown into a nationally recognized brand, present in seven states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Goa. With a distribution network covering over 40,000 retail points and 450 distributors, Hangyo is known for its commitment to quality, customer trust, and innovation in frozen desserts.
