Transrail Lighting Ltd, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm active in the transmission and distribution sector, is setting its sights on capturing 8–10% of the project orders floated by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) in the current financial year, according to company CEO and Managing Director Randeep Narang.
Powergrid, India’s largest power transmission utility operating under the Ministry of Power, has laid out capital expenditure plans of ₹28,000 crore for FY26, followed by ₹35,000 crore for FY27 and ₹45,000 crore in FY28. Transrail is targeting a stable slice of this investment cycle to strengthen its domestic operations. “We currently command 8–10% of Powergrid’s market, and that’s the share we plan to maintain this year,” Mr Narang said. “This gives us a solid operational foundation in India.”
In FY25, Transrail registered strong performance with ₹9,680 crore worth of fresh orders—marking a year-on-year growth of 120%. The company ended the year with an unexecuted order book (UEOB) of ₹14,551 crore. Including orders where it holds L1 status, the total order value rises to ₹15,915 crore, representing a 44% year-on-year increase.
With a sizable backlog and new orders already flowing in during early FY26, Narang is confident about revenue certainty for the next 24–30 months. “This strong pipeline supports our long-term visibility,” he noted.
Transrail operates across multiple infrastructure verticals, including transmission, distribution, civil works, railways, poles, and lighting, with presence in 59 countries. Around half of its business is driven by the Indian market, while the rest is spread across Africa (notably in Kenya, Cameroon, Tanzania, and Ethiopia), the SAARC region, and parts of Latin America and the Caribbean. “We continue to see healthy traction in these international markets and expect growth momentum to persist,” Mr Narang added.
Regarding Transrail’s work in Bangladesh, the company’s pending order load had declined to 15% by March and further dropped to 12% by May 2025. “We aim to bring that down to 5–6% by year-end and expect to complete the remaining work by June 2026,” Mr Narang confirmed. “We are not pursuing any new bids in Bangladesh currently.” Execution delays linked to political unrest in the region did cause temporary disruptions, but operations have since stabilized with government support, he added.
