Tata Power is evolving beyond its traditional solar and wind operations, aiming to play a major role in the hybrid renewable energy segment. Chairman N Chandrasekaran shared this strategic direction during the company’s 106th Annual General Meeting.
He noted that Tata Power is now focused on delivering integrated, flexible, and scalable clean energy solutions that support 24/7 green power supply for both businesses and households. The company is also preparing to participate in nuclear power projects, should the sector open up to private firms.
Chandrasekaran paid tribute to Tata Group’s chairman emeritus Ratan Tata, who passed away in October last year, and expressed condolences for those lost in the recent Air India Flight 171 tragedy. He praised Ratan Tata’s legacy and the lasting influence of his values and leadership.
On operational progress, Tata Power’s total generation capacity, including projects in development, has surpassed 25 GW, with 65% of that coming from renewable sources. The company has partnered with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power to develop 5 GW of cross-border clean energy, including the 600 MW Khorlochhu and 1,000 MW Bhivpuri projects.
The 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, has also been fully commissioned during the year. Tata Power maintained 99.9% transmission availability in FY25 and secured transmission contracts worth over ₹4,800 crore. Its total transmission footprint now covers more than 7,000 circuit kilometers, including projects under development.
The company currently supplies power to 12.8 million customers through seven distribution utilities across Delhi, Mumbai, Ajmer, and Odisha. Financially, Tata Power reported a record profit after tax of ₹5,197 crore in FY25, marking a 26% increase over the previous year. EBITDA crossed ₹15,000 crore for the first time, reaching ₹15,261 crore, while revenue rose 5% year-on-year to ₹64,502 crore. Growth in rooftop solar installations and improved efficiency in distribution services contributed to the strong performance.
