Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has begun delivering samples of the TB9M001FTG, the second entry in its SmartMCD™ motor control driver lineup. This device combines a microcontroller with integrated relay driving and LIN communication features, making it suitable for managing two brushed DC motors in vehicle systems.

As automotive systems increasingly move toward electrification, there is growing demand for components that offer higher performance, greater functionality, reduced size, and fewer parts. Toshiba developed the TB9M001FTG to address these evolving needs.

The new SmartMCD™ device includes four low-side drivers for relay operation or similar uses, enabling bi-directional control of two brushed DC motors. It also incorporates an Arm® Cortex®-M0 core microcontroller, large-capacity flash memory, two high-side drivers for power distribution, a LIN interface, and a power management unit designed to operate directly from automotive batteries—all within a compact 7×7 mm VQFN48 package.

This solution is suitable for applications like electric sunroofs, window regulators, seat adjusters, and windshield wipers. In addition to motor control, it can also manage sensors and actuators, and it functions as a secondary module via LIN communication with a central ECU. This enhances the efficiency of system-wide control and supports various functions across the vehicle. Toshiba plans to continue expanding its SmartMCD™ family, aiming to support more compact automotive designs and reduce the number of discrete components required.
