ABB has expanded its Mexico Technology and Engineering Center (MXTEC) in Merida, Yucatan, doubling its office space to better serve North American markets. This expansion supports increasing demand across industries such as mining, pulp and paper, and cement by enhancing engineering, sales, and project support capabilities.

Since opening two years ago, MXTEC’s team has grown to 43 employees, with plans to add up to 10 more in 2025. The center has also broadened its functions to include trade, logistics, health, safety, and environment (HSE) services. New roles, such as a cyber security lead and quality manager for the Americas, have been introduced to strengthen operations.

Looking ahead, MXTEC aims to expand its expertise in distributed control systems (DCS) and quality control systems (QCS), helping clients integrate automation, electrification, and digitalization solutions using ABB’s latest technologies.

Jan Majersky, Operations Manager for Mexico at ABB Process Industries, commented, “Our team’s collaboration and commitment have been outstanding, with full employee retention so far. The upgraded facility provides a strong foundation for ongoing innovation and growth.”

The center is focused on developing technical skills and leadership to address industry-wide skill shortages, while offering promising career paths for its staff. It also maintains strong ties with ABB’s global centers, including those in India and Czechia, and collaborates closely with Mexican universities. Initial employee training took place at ABB’s Czech Operations Center in Ostrava, with trained staff now mentoring colleagues locally.
