Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have signed an MoU to co-develop ready-to-deploy electric vehicle solutions aimed at India’s rapidly growing EV sector. The partnership seeks to fast-track the rollout of efficient, cost-effective, and safety-compliant systems across multiple vehicle categories.
The alliance comes at a pivotal moment, with electric vehicle sales in India rising by 25–30% in 2024, including strong momentum in the two- and three-wheeler segments. Tata Elxsi and Infineon plan to combine their strengths—system design and integration from Tata Elxsi, and advanced semiconductor technologies from Infineon—to address this surge.
As part of the collaboration, the companies will focus on developing high-voltage inverters for traction and support systems, modular battery management systems, bidirectional onboard chargers, and thermal management components for electric drivetrains. These solutions will cater to two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial fleets—with potential expansion into eVTOL, off-highway, and energy applications. The planned solutions will be aligned with ISO 26262 standards and meet ASIL-D safety requirements, reflecting a strong emphasis on vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.
“Many of our EV systems already use Infineon’s chipsets and SoCs,” said Nambi Ganesh, Head of Automotive at Tata Elxsi. “This formal partnership will help streamline development, reduce turnaround times, and deliver production-ready platforms that meet automotive quality benchmarks.”
Infineon Technologies, known for its expertise in power semiconductors and microcontrollers, will offer early access to its latest innovations, including silicon carbide components and other high-efficiency integrated circuits. “Our collaboration with Tata Elxsi marks an important step in supporting India’s e-mobility shift,” said Kenneth Lim, Senior Vice President, Automotive, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific. “By merging advanced semiconductor design with robust vehicle integration expertise, we are enabling faster deployment of reliable, high-performance EV systems tailored for Indian road and climate conditions.” The initiative complements government targets set by NITI Aayog, which include 80% electrification of two- and three-wheelers and 70% of commercial vehicles by 2030.
