Embraco, a global name in residential and commercial refrigeration and a part of Nidec Global Appliance, has announced plans to manufacture compressors in India. The new facility will be set up in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, and will focus on producing refrigeration compressors and electronic components. Operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.

With an investment of over $120 million, the plant will cover 55,000 square meters and will have a production capacity of 6 million units annually. The site is expected to generate 750 to 1,000 direct jobs, contributing to local employment and skills development in advanced refrigeration technologies.

Alberto Casnati, President of Nidec Global Appliance, said, “India’s fast-growing refrigeration market aligns with our long-term growth strategy. This new factory will help us serve domestic demand more efficiently with locally made, high-performance products for both home and commercial use. We appreciate the support from both the state and central governments, which was crucial in bringing this project to life.”

The new Indian manufacturing facility will produce four lines of Embraco compressors, along with advanced inverter electronics designed for variable-speed systems. Among the product lines are the ES and EL fixed-speed compressor models, which are known for their compact design, energy efficiency, and quiet operation. While both models are ideal for household refrigeration, the ES model is also engineered to meet the needs of light commercial applications.

In addition to fixed-speed options, the facility will manufacture two variable-speed compressor lines: the FMS and VLT models. These compressors incorporate inverter technology to deliver enhanced temperature control, faster cooling, and reduced energy consumption. Their compact design allows for greater flexibility in installation while maintaining high cooling performance, making them suitable for both domestic and commercial refrigeration environments.

Complementing the compressors, the plant will also produce inverter electronics that adjust compressor speed according to real-time cooling demand. This capability not only optimizes system performance but also significantly improves energy efficiency. By integrating these components, the facility will support the growing demand for smart, sustainable refrigeration solutions across various markets.

The ES and FMS models are already widely adopted across global markets and known for their reliability and high production volumes. Mr Casnati added, “By establishing this plant in India, we’re not only meeting local market needs but also positioning the facility to serve as a regional export hub. This investment supports our goal to reinforce supply chains and drive innovation in the refrigeration sector.”

Founded in 1971, Embraco supplies cutting-edge refrigeration technology across a broad range of residential, food service, retail, and medical applications. It operates under Nidec Global Appliance, a division of Nidec Corporation.

Nidec Global Appliance employs over 13,000 people and runs 18 manufacturing sites and 5 business offices across 9 countries.
