Scaler Innovation Lab has partnered with Bengaluru-based startup Gahan AI to develop autonomous navigation technologies aimed at improving vehicle safety and efficiency in the mining sector. This collaboration brings together Scaler’s extensive network of engineering and business students with Gahan AI’s expertise in autonomous mobility and artificial intelligence.
The focus will be on creating navigation systems for environments where traditional map-based systems are ineffective, particularly on uncharted terrains in mining sites. These innovative solutions are expected to be deployed in mining operations across India and globally, particularly in challenging weather conditions.
Students from Scaler’s School of Technology and School of Business will actively contribute to the research and development process, guided by Gahan AI’s technical team. Engineering students will focus on developing AI models for real-time decision-making in unpredictable conditions, while business students will explore commercialization strategies, including pricing models, market entry plans, and operational structures.
The collaboration aims to address significant safety challenges in the mining industry. According to data from India’s Directorate General of Mines Safety, nearly 40% of mining fatalities occur due to haulage-related accidents. On a global scale, the International Council on Mining and Metals reports that over 70% of fatal mining accidents happen due to vehicle interactions in poorly mapped areas. Gahan AI’s technology seeks to mitigate these risks by enabling vehicles to operate safely without relying on pre-existing maps.
Gahan AI will organize exclusive workshops and hackathons for Scaler students, providing selected participants with internships and mentorship. Some students will have the opportunity to work in Gahan AI’s core business functions. The startup’s leadership will also mentor student-led startups incubated at the Scaler Innovation Lab.
Additionally, Gahan AI will establish a dedicated presence within the Scaler Innovation Lab, providing guidance and support to early-stage ventures. The collaboration is designed to foster hands-on learning and give students real-world experience in emerging technologies.

Its proprietary technology suite includes AI-driven software, sensor fusion systems, and long-range teleoperation tools.
