Premier Energies Ltd, a leading manufacturer of solar cells and modules, has entered into a joint venture (JV) with Taiwan’s Sino-American Silicon Products Inc (SAS), the parent company of GlobalWafers. The JV will see Premier Energies and SAS collaborate on a 74:26 partnership to establish a state-of-the-art solar wafer manufacturing plant in India.
The plant, with an annual production capacity of 2 GW, will focus on slicing polysilicon ingots into silicon wafers used in the production of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. By combining Premier Energies’ expertise in large-scale solar manufacturing with SAS’ proficiency in semiconductor wafer production, the venture aims to enhance India’s solar manufacturing capabilities.
“This JV represents a significant step in our backward integration strategy into solar wafer production,” said Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director of Premier Energies. “Partnering with SAS allows us to produce high-quality solar wafers, which will contribute to increasing local manufacturing within the solar value chain. This collaboration aligns with and strengthens India’s Make-in-India initiative.”
Doris Hsu, Chairperson and CEO of Sino-American Silicon Products Inc and GlobalWafers, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “Together with Premier Energies, we are addressing a crucial gap in the solar supply chain, not just in India but also in international markets. This JV will strengthen operational resilience and help meet the growing demand for solar products in India.”
With a strong focus on innovation, Premier Energies has expanded its product portfolio to include advanced technologies like TOPCon modules, catering to the increasing global demand for high-efficiency solar products. Over the years, the company has established itself as a key player in the renewable energy sector, contributing significantly to India’s solar energy capacity and driving the country’s transition towards cleaner energy sources. Its robust infrastructure and forward-looking strategies position it as a reliable partner in the global push for sustainability.
