The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has entered into a formal partnership with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to advance the development of early-stage climate-technology enterprises in India. The collaboration aims to facilitate access to funding, mentorship, and other critical resources to support innovation aligned with national climate goals.

Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), GEAPP will launch the Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge (ENTICE), a competitive platform designed to incentivise high-impact climate solutions. The initiative will offer financial awards of up to USD 500,000 to selected ventures demonstrating scalable, clean energy innovations. The agreement also outlines coordinated efforts to mobilise investment support through partner organisations, including Spectrum Impact and Avana Capital, to strengthen the climate-tech funding ecosystem.

Commenting on the partnership, Sanjiv, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, stated that the initiative will create substantial opportunities for emerging clean energy startups to advance technologies critical to achieving India’s long-term net-zero commitments. The MoU was formally signed by Sumeet Jarangal, Director at DPIIT, and Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India, GEAPP.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and is responsible for formulating and implementing policies to promote industrial growth, attract foreign direct investment (FDI), and enhance ease of doing business in the country. It plays a critical role in driving startup innovation, fostering manufacturing competitiveness under initiatives like Make in India, and supporting infrastructure development. DPIIT also oversees intellectual property rights administration, creating a conducive regulatory environment for innovation and investment. Through policy reforms and stakeholder engagement, DPIIT seeks to accelerate India’s industrial development and global economic integration.

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on accelerating clean energy transitions in developing and emerging economies. With support from philanthropic organizations like The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP partners with governments, development finance institutions, and the private sector to expand access to renewable energy while creating sustainable jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. GEAPP emphasizes scalable solutions that align with national energy goals, particularly in areas like distributed renewable power, energy-efficient appliances, and grid modernization. Its mission is to enable inclusive energy systems that support both people and planet.
