Atlas Copco has initiated a Remanufactured Equipment Program in India aimed at restoring used compressors and engines to their original performance specifications. The program is designed to extend equipment lifespan, lower overall ownership costs, reduce environmental impact through sustainable practices, and provide industry-grade, high-performance refurbished machinery.

The first fully restored compressor has been delivered under this initiative, marking the beginning of a broader strategy to supply customized, reliable solutions tailored to industry requirements. The program distinguishes itself by offering remanufactured equipment that delivers performance equivalent to new machines, at a significantly lower cost. Clients benefit from reduced capital expenditure, shorter equipment lead times, access to the latest technological upgrades, and enhanced durability. Sectors such as construction, mining, water well drilling, and oil and gas are expected to gain operational and financial advantages from the availability of robust and application-specific compressors.

The remanufacturing process begins with a thorough assessment of the returned equipment to evaluate its overall condition and identify components requiring attention. Following this, the equipment is completely disassembled into individual parts. Each component undergoes a detailed cleaning process to remove contaminants, dirt, and residues that may affect performance or longevity. Once cleaned, parts are carefully inspected for signs of wear, damage, or fatigue to determine whether they can be reused or need replacement.

Damaged or worn components are replaced with either new or refurbished parts that meet stringent quality standards. The equipment is then reassembled with precision, ensuring all parts fit and function as intended. After reassembly, rigorous performance testing is conducted to validate the unit’s reliability and ensure it meets original specifications. Finally, the equipment receives protective coatings and a quality finish, both to enhance durability and restore its external appearance to like-new condition.

Each unit is covered under a warranty that includes protection against defects in design and manufacturing. The program adheres to rigorous quality standards, utilizing certified technicians, genuine spare parts, and compliance with ISO protocols.

Prasanna Kulkarni, General Manager of the Power Technique Customer Center at Atlas Copco (India), stated “The Remanufactured Equipment Program reflects our long-term strategy focused on sustainability, operational reliability, and customer value. By reusing existing materials and components, we not only optimize production costs but also advance responsible resource utilization.”

The program aligns with global environmental initiatives by promoting lower carbon emissions, efficient resource usage, and minimized industrial waste. Atlas Copco expects increased demand for remanufactured solutions and plans to scale its capabilities accordingly, including continued investment in advanced remanufacturing technologies to support the evolving needs of its industrial clientele.
