Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 entity and a prominent player in India’s oil and gas sector, has finalized contracts for the establishment of 100 MW wind power facilities—comprising 50 MW each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This move represents a significant advancement in the company’s strategic shift toward renewable energy and reduced dependence on imported fossil fuels.

The Letters of Award have been issued to Suzlon Energy Limited for the Madhya Pradesh project and Integrum Energy Infrastructure Limited for the Maharashtra site. Both projects are slated for completion within a two-year timeframe. The generated wind power will fulfill the captive electricity needs of BPCL’s refineries in Mumbai and Bina, effectively replacing conventional energy sources with renewable alternatives.

This development is aligned with BPCL’s broader renewable energy agenda, which targets a 10 GW capacity by 2040. It also supports the company’s commitment to achieving Net Zero status for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by the same year.

Bharat Petroleum is India’s second-largest oil marketing enterprise and a fully integrated energy company operating across the value chain of the oil and gas industry. The company holds the distinguished Maharatna status, granting it increased operational and financial autonomy.

BPCL operates major refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, and Bina with a combined processing capacity of approximately 35.3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA). Its marketing and distribution infrastructure includes over 23,500 fuel stations, more than 6,200 LPG distribution agencies, 500 lubricant distributors, 80 petroleum storage sites, 54 LPG bottling facilities, 79 aviation service stations, five lube blending units, and five cross-country pipelines.

In line with its sustainability objectives, BPCL has installed electric vehicle charging stations at more than 6,500 fuel outlets. The company is actively developing an integrated strategy to support its goal of becoming a Net Zero Energy company by 2040 for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

BPCL also supports a range of community initiatives focused on education, water management, healthcare, skill development, and capacity building. Guided by the principle of “Energising Lives,” the organization aims to establish itself as a globally respected energy company driven by innovation, talent, and technology.
