Waaree Energies Ltd., a leader in India’s clean energy transformation, has officially launched its state-of-the-art 5.4 GW solar cell gigafactory in Chikhli, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone for the country’s renewable energy sector. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries including Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Jal Shakti Shri C.R. Paatil, and other senior ministers from the state. Covering 150 acres with 101 acres of built-up area, the new facility is a symbol of India’s commitment to achieving a sustainable energy future.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted, “Gujarat has been the birthplace of India’s renewable energy journey, and today, it sets the standard for other states. The launch of this massive solar cell manufacturing facility embodies the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat and reflects India’s growing strength in the global renewable energy market. Waaree’s dedication to local production aligns with our national vision of positioning India as a manufacturing hub for clean energy technologies.”
Waaree Energies’ Chairman and Managing Director, Hitesh Doshi, expressed pride in the company’s achievement, stating, “With the opening of this 5.4 GW facility, Waaree is laying the foundation for India’s energy independence and technological leadership. The Chikhli facility is equipped with the latest high-efficiency solar cell technology, underscoring Waaree’s commitment to research, innovation, and sustainability. In addition to its production capacity, the plant supports India’s decarbonisation goals by contributing to a cleaner, greener energy future. The facility also provides significant employment opportunities, with over 9,500 direct jobs and an additional 30,000 indirect jobs created, boosting the local economy.
