Alstom, a global leader in sustainable transport solutions, has finalized a deal with SŽ – Tovornipromet (Slovenian Railways – Freight Transport) to deliver 30 advanced Traxx Universal electric locomotives. The contract, valued at over €150 million, covers the supply of four-axle locomotives for freight operations in Slovenia, as well as in Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia.

Frederique Kalb, Alstom’s Managing Director for the Central and Eastern Europe region, emphasized that these locomotives would play a key role in enhancing Slovenia’s freight transportation sector. “The introduction of these high-performance locomotives will not only support Slovenia’s sustainability goals but also improve the efficiency of freight operations through their energy-saving capabilities and low maintenance requirements. This contract further strengthens Alstom’s footprint in Central and Eastern Europe,” Kalb stated.

The Traxx locomotives will feature Alstom’s advanced ERTMS technology and Onvia Cab system, designed to maximize operational efficiency, safety, and security, while ensuring seamless interoperability across borders. These locomotives are built for heavy-duty freight services and will complement Slovenian Railways’ existing fleet.

The versatile Traxx Universal locomotives are engineered for a wide range of freight and passenger transport needs, offering flexibility with configurations in AC, DC, and multi-system options. The locomotives are optimized for high energy efficiency, reduced maintenance intervals, and improved overall performance, ensuring their long-term reliability and availability.

Alstom’s expertise in locomotive manufacturing is well-established, with over 6,000 locomotives delivered worldwide since 2000. The company also leads in locomotive maintenance, managing over 2,450 units globally, including nearly 600 Traxx locomotives. As a pioneer in ETCS onboard technology, Alstom has equipped 70% of European trains with ERTMS and has installed more than 25,000 onboard units across 200 vehicle types globally.
