Zetwerk Electronics, a division of the $2 billion Zetwerk Manufacturing Group, inaugurated its largest electronics manufacturing facility near Chennai on Saturday. Located in Pannur, 55 km from the city in Tiruvallur district, the 15-acre facility will significantly enhance India’s position in the global Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector. It also aligns with India’s goal of achieving a $500 billion ESDM market and Tamil Nadu’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy, according to Amrit Acharya, CEO & Co-founder of Zetwerk.

The new plant will focus on producing control boards for appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, and IT hardware. It is equipped with advanced production capabilities, including five Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) lines, Manual Insertion (MI) lines, potting, conformal coating, and comprehensive testing facilities. At full capacity, the plant is expected to employ around 1,200 skilled workers.

The facility was inaugurated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Railways, and Information & Broadcasting. In his address, Vaishnaw highlighted the significance of Zetwerk’s seventh factory and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering Indian companies to become global leaders in electronics manufacturing. He also mentioned the development of two major Electronics Manufacturing Clusters in Tamil Nadu with a budget of ₹1,112 crore, which will significantly boost the state’s electronic manufacturing capabilities.

Vaishnaw noted that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, electronics manufacturing was a small sector, but today, it ranks as the second-largest export category in India, surpassing several traditional industries. He expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for advancing the Prime Minister’s vision.

Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, emphasized that the state leads the country in electronics production, contributing 36% of national exports. He added that investments from modern companies like Zetwerk enhance the state’s manufacturing ecosystem and support its goal of increasing annual electronics exports to ₹100 billion. Mr Acharya explained that the new facility is designed to serve as an export hub, capitalizing on trade opportunities between India and the US and strengthening India’s role in global supply chains.

In a conversation with reporters, Mr Acharya also shared that Zetwerk plans to go public within the next 15-24 months, with preparations already underway. He noted that as a relatively young company, there is no immediate pressure to launch an IPO, as investors typically expect a 7-to-10-year horizon before companies go public.
