Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to explore opportunities for renewable energy projects in the state. The MoU was signed in Amaravati, marking a key step in advancing the state’s renewable energy goals.

Through this agreement, TPREL and the Andhra Pradesh government will jointly assess renewable energy development opportunities, targeting up to 7,000 MW (7 GW) of solar, wind, and hybrid projects, with or without storage solutions. The projected investment for these projects could reach up to ₹49,000 crore, making it one of the largest renewable energy investments in the state.

This collaboration supports the state’s aim to enhance its renewable energy capacity and transition to a sustainable, green future. In addition to advancing Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy ambitions, the MoU is expected to boost the local economy, create job opportunities, promote skill development, and contribute to the state’s socio-economic growth. The planned projects will align with the state’s Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which aims to develop over 160 GW of renewable energy with an investment potential of ₹10 lakh crore.

Deepesh Nanda, CEO & Managing Director of TPREL, commented, “We are excited to partner with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in advancing its clean energy journey. By leveraging our expertise and technology, this collaboration will drive large-scale renewable energy adoption and contribute to India’s sustainability targets. Developing up to 7 GW of clean energy projects will further strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s role as a renewable energy hub and accelerate its transition to a low-carbon economy.”

Shri Nara Lokesh, the Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Human Resources Development of Andhra Pradesh, said, “We are delighted to welcome Tata Power Renewable Energy to help advance Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy landscape. This collaboration strengthens the long-standing relationship between the state and the Tata group. With this partnership, we aim to drive clean energy investments and innovation, while creating long-term economic and environmental benefits for the state. Our landmark clean energy policy is expected to generate ₹10 lakh crore in investments and create 7.5 lakh jobs for the people of Andhra Pradesh.”

As part of the agreement, TPREL will conduct feasibility studies and assessments to evaluate the viability of these projects. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will assist with site identification, facilitation, and evacuation infrastructure support. This initiative will significantly boost the state’s renewable energy capacity and reinforce TPREL’s commitment to India’s clean energy mission.
