The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has officially certified the H125’s single-pilot instrument flight rules (IFR) capability, clearing the path for the first deliveries in 2025 from Airbus Helicopters’ facility in Columbus, Mississippi. This new feature, developed with Moog’s Genesys Aerosystems, includes an enhanced cockpit, a new autopilot system, and upgraded redundant hydraulic and electrical systems.

The IFR capability enables pilots to operate the aircraft in low-visibility and adverse weather conditions, offering advanced avionics and autopilot to improve situational awareness while reducing pilot workload. The H125 continues to lead the light single-engine helicopter market with its exceptional power, safety, versatility, and maneuverability.

“This new IFR feature enhances the operational scope of the H125, allowing operators to perform complex missions at a lower cost. It expands the helicopter’s versatility, particularly for critical operations such as public services, law enforcement, emergency medical services, and pilot training—missions in high demand, especially in North America,” stated Jérome Ronssin, Head of the Light Helicopters Programme at Airbus Helicopters.

With over 4,300 H125 helicopters in operation worldwide, the model remains the top choice in the intermediate single-engine category, holding an impressive 80% market share in 2024. In 2024, the Ecureuil family also marked 40 million flight hours and 50 years since its first flight.
