German mechatronics company Marquardt has officially opened a new production facility in Talegaon, near Pune, India, on March 5, 2025. This new plant replaces the company’s previous site in Mumbai and represents an investment of over 180 crore rupees (around $21.5 million USD) in infrastructure, machinery, and equipment.

The facility will primarily focus on manufacturing mechatronic system solutions for India’s automotive industry, such as drive authorization systems, gear selector switches, and battery management systems for electric vehicles. Marquardt also plans to add approximately 300 new jobs at the plant over the next five years.

“India represents a key growth market for Marquardt with significant potential,” said BjörnTwiehaus, CEO of the Marquardt Group. “By opening this new plant in Talegaon, we are advancing our success story in India and strengthening our role as a leading supplier of mechatronic systems for future mobility.”

Vishal Narvekar, General Manager of Marquardt India, emphasized the plant’s role in supporting the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative by boosting local production, driving innovation, and creating job opportunities.

Marquardt has had a presence in India for several decades and operates a development center in Pune, employing over 450 people who work on both local and global projects as part of Marquardt’s international innovation network.

The opening event was attended by representatives from major automotive manufacturers, partner companies, and distinguished figures from both business and government. Dr. Harald Marquardt, a shareholder and board member, praised the efforts of the local team during the inauguration.

Founded in 1925 and based in Rietheim-Weilheim, Germany, Marquardt is a family-owned company specializing in electromechanical and electronic switches and switching systems.
