Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), a leading railway systems provider in India, has announced significant changes in its management structure and the creation of two new business verticals aimed at driving targeted growth. The company has introduced new divisions named Ship Building and Maritime Systems (SMS) and Safety and Signaling Systems (SSS).

Although Titagarh has been involved in shipbuilding projects in the past, including specialized vessels like a Fast Patrol vessel for the Indian Coast Guard and coastal research vessels, this new initiative will place more emphasis on the growing maritime sector, in alignment with the Indian government’s “Atmanirbharta” (self-reliance) goal. Titagarh’s existing shipyard in Kolkata is already approved for warship construction and recognized by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, among other authorities.

Saket Kandoi, Director of the company and former COO of the Freight Rail Systems division, has been appointed CEO of the newly-formed Ship Building and Maritime Systems division. He emphasized the company’s plans to expand its shipbuilding operations by adding facilities and forming strategic alliances to contribute to India’s maritime growth.

Additionally, the Safety and Signaling Systems vertical will focus on enhancing safety and signaling technologies for India’s railway and metro systems. This aligns with the Indian Railway’s efforts to improve safety and signaling capabilities. Titagarh’s partnership with MERMEC of Italy, a leader in this field, will help introduce advanced technologies into India’s rail network.

Prithish Chowdhary, Deputy Managing Director of Titagarh, will take on the role of interim CEO for the SSS vertical and highlighted key areas of focus, including train control and asset monitoring solutions. In other management changes, Anil Kumar Agarwal, Deputy Managing Director and CEO of the Freight Rail Systems division, has been appointed to the expanded role of Deputy Managing Director, overseeing both the Freight Rail and Passenger Rail Systems divisions.

Agarwal expressed enthusiasm for the new responsibilities and emphasized his commitment to positioning Titagarh as the leading producer of passenger coaches in India, with plans to optimize costs, embrace new technology, and expand internationally.

The company also announced the grant of 5 lakh Employee Stock Options (ESOs) to eligible employees, reinforcing its commitment to growth and employee participation. Umesh Chowdhary, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Titagarh, expressed excitement about these changes, noting that they will support the company’s growth trajectory and contribute to India’s self-reliance vision. He emphasized that Titagarh’s various business units are poised to play a crucial role in achieving the government’s goal of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

Titagarh Rail Systems is a prominent provider of comprehensive mobility solutions with manufacturing facilities in India and Italy. The company specializes in passenger and freight rolling stock, including semi-high-speed trains, metros, passenger coaches, propulsion systems, and a range of specialized wagons. With a focus on innovation and excellence, Titagarh is dedicated to shaping the future of transportation and contributing to India’s “Make in India” initiative.
