Alstom Secures ₹1,285 Crore Contract for Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Components and Maintenance

Alstom, a global leader in rail mobility solutions, has won a contract worth €144 million (approximately ₹1,285 crore) to supply Mitrac traction components and other electrical systems for 17 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, totaling 408 coaches. The equipment will be delivered to Indian Railways’ Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.

The contract also includes a five-year maintenance agreement for traction and major electrical components after the warranty period, ensuring efficient operation at various railway depots. These 24-coach sleeper trainsets, designed for speeds of up to 180 km/h, will enhance long-distance travel in India.

Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, expressed pride in partnering with Indian Railways to advance modern rail-based mobility in the country. He emphasized that Alstom’s extensive expertise in railway components, combined with its strong manufacturing and engineering presence in India, will enable the company to deliver high-quality products and optimize maintenance services.

The contract will be executed at Alstom’s Maneja facility, with prototype deliveries beginning in August 2026, followed by full-scale production in 2027. The maintenance services will commence in 2029. With a robust presence in India, Alstom operates key manufacturing and engineering sites in Bangalore, Savli, Coimbatore, and Maneja.

The company provides an extensive range of rail components, including bogies, motors, brake systems, traction converters, and train control systems. Alstom’s FlexCare Sustain program offers long-term support for fleet reliability, covering parts, repairs, and component overhauls.
