Ixxat SG-gateways facilitate the exchange of data among Industrial Ethernet systems and common fieldbus and IEC61850 or IEC 60870-5-104-based energy networks. HMS Networks has introduced novel functions such as Mediabreaker functionality and support for MQTT, OPC-UA, DNP3, and IEC60870-5-101. There is an enhancement in user management and an Ethernet switch version is available.
The development in the Energy sector is quick. This is propelled by the transformation to electromobility, renewable energies, and the move from pure energy consumers to prosumers (producer and consumer). The alterations cause high demands on communication within the energy distribution networks. To alter the existing infrastructure to the new conditions, highly flexible and safe solutions are essential inclusive of mitigation of the increased danger of cyberattacks. HMS has come up with Ixxat SG-gateways to complete the requirements for more flexibility and security.
Ixxat SG-gateways provide support to the safe data transmission through VPN and IEC60870-5-104 protocol. As per the Transmission System Operators (TSO) specifications, there must be a change in the transmission medium to add a further security layer and avoid the passing of malicious code to the terminal device. The IEC60870-5-101 protocol integration assists users to connect the 101-compatible devices to the respective operators’ control rooms as per TSO specifications. The SG-gateways facilitate an easy break between Ethernet-based (IEC60870-5-104) and serial (IEC60870-5-101) communication. The specific MediaBreaker version uses only one Ethernet port and one serial interface to adapt to the application. The media break integration enables the IEC60870-5-101 protocol to be available through the serial interface. This connects old devices to modern control rooms and controllers without their replacement by new devices.
The novel SG-gateway switch version makes it possible to connect up to four devices directly to a second Ethernet port and for distribution of communication in a flexible method over two separate networks. Now, there is no requirement for external switches.
Ixxat SG-gateways provides functions for simple controlling tasks and data aggregation. Because of the new support from the popular OPC-UA and MQTT standards, these gateways are used to feed data from varied industrial and energy networks to established services from Google, Microsoft, and other providers. At these locations, the data can be evaluated and reacted on through a safe bidirectional connection. OPC-UA and MQTT are available at all gateway versions without any extra charges.
These SG-gateways support the DNP3 protocol, which witnesses wide use by companies in the Energy sector in the US, UK, Australia, and other nations. The other advantages are an updated user interface for easier configuration and management of connected devices.
