Rockwell Automation has entered into a partnership with Ceylon Can Manufacturing, a leading producer of beverage cans in Sri Lanka, to implement its cloud-based Plex Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This move will enable Ceylon Can to digitize its manufacturing operations, improving efficiency and production capabilities.
This collaboration marks Rockwell’s first implementation of Plex MES in Sri Lanka and its first in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) sector in the Indian subcontinent. The pilot project will serve as a key step in Ceylon Can’s digital transformation, supporting the company’s future expansion plans, including new manufacturing facilities in India.

Ceylon Can, which exports 80% of its products globally, will first implement the digital transformation program at its Sri Lanka site. The initiative will lay the groundwork for the company’s planned expansion through two new greenfield plants in India.
Chulananda de Silva, General Manager at Ceylon Can, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the Plex platform’s capabilities align perfectly with the company’s operational needs. He added that the partnership would help Ceylon Can maintain its commitment to high-quality products for its global customers.
Plex MES will provide real-time insights into key production metrics, such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), which will help boost production efficiency, reduce delivery times, and increase flexibility for new designs and products.
