Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has partnered with the Bihar government to automate five driving license test tracks in Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnia, and Saran. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of the driving license testing process in the state.

The automated tracks leverage advanced technology, including high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems, to evaluate candidates without human intervention. Testing adheres to Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), with results generated automatically to ensure that only qualified drivers are issued licenses.

Bihar’s Transport Minister, Sheela Kumari, commended the partnership, emphasizing the positive impact on road safety. “By ensuring only capable drivers receive licenses, we make our roads safer for everyone. This collaboration builds on the success of automated tracks in Aurangabad and Patna and is a significant step toward promoting responsible driving in Bihar,” she said.

Since 2018, Maruti Suzuki has been actively advancing road safety in Bihar, starting with the establishment of the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in Aurangabad. Automated tracks introduced in Aurangabad (2020) and Patna (2021) have already improved driver readiness and testing standards.

Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the importance of the initiative in addressing road safety challenges. “With over 15.3 lakh lives lost in road accidents between 2014 and 2023, initiatives like automated driving test tracks play a critical role in reducing human errors by improving driver skills and awareness,” he said.

Maruti Suzuki has automated 27 driving test tracks across states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Haryana. With ongoing projects to develop 12 more tracks in Uttar Pradesh and five in Bihar, the company is set to complete automation of 44 tracks nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to road safety through engineering, education, evaluation, enforcement, and emergency care.
