Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has unveiled plans to develop a network of nearly 600 fast EV charging stations across the country by 2031. By the end of 2024, the company aims to have over 50 DC fast chargers operational, strategically positioned along highways, urban centers, and dealership locations.
HMIL’s existing infrastructure has supported around 50,000 charging sessions, delivering over 7.3 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 EV users, including owners of Hyundai and other brands. Through its myHyundai app, the company collaborates with partners such as ChargeZone, Statiq, and Shell India to provide access to over 10,000 EV charging points nationwide, enabling seamless long-distance travel across India.
Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning at HMIL, noted that concerns over highway charging facilities often hinder EV owners from embarking on long trips. To counter this, HMIL is leveraging Hyundai Motor Corporation’s global expertise in EV and battery technology to expand its charging infrastructure.
In collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, HMIL has committed to setting up 100 charging stations in the state by 2027, with 10 slated to be operational by the end of 2024. Three of these stations are already running in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai, with more to follow soon.
These charging stations, compatible with all four-wheeled EVs produced in India, will be located at shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants. They will feature advanced configurations such as DC 150 kW, DC 60 kW, and DC 30 kW chargers, along with 24/7 CCTV surveillance and on-site assistance.
Hyundai has strategically placed its charging network along major routes like Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur, as well as in key cities like Gurugram, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Chennai.
To date, Hyundai has sold over 4,061 EVs in India, including the IONIQ 5 and KONA models. This initiative underlines HMIL’s commitment to advancing electric mobility and addressing the need for a robust and accessible charging ecosystem in India.
