Endress+Hauser has achieved a key milestone in its sustainability journey, with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validating the company’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. Both its 2034 near-term goals and 2050 net-zero commitment are aligned with the 1.5-degree Celsius target set by the Paris Climate Agreement and supported by current scientific research.
The SBTi provides a rigorous framework to ensure corporate emission reduction targets are in line with global climate science. Endress+Hauser has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, reinforcing its dedication to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The company’s validated goals include reducing absolute GHG emissions by 90% across its operations (scope 1 and 2) and supply chain (scope 3) compared to its 2023 baseline. Only 10% of emissions may be offset through permanent carbon removal strategies. For its near-term objectives, Endress+Hauser aims to cut emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 80% and scope 3 by 35% by 2034.
“This is not just an environmental responsibility but an economic necessity,” said Dr. Peter Selders, CEO of Endress+Hauser. “Our products enable the sustainable transformation of the process industry, and we are equally committed to improving our own sustainability.”
The company is actively increasing renewable energy use, improving energy efficiency, and expanding the adoption of electric mobility. A dedicated CO2 dashboard helps monitor emissions from fuel use, energy procurement, and renewable energy adoption across its operations.
In addressing scope 3 emissions, which constitute 97% of its carbon footprint, Endress+Hauser is optimizing its supply chain and product design. Key areas of focus include reducing the environmental impact of raw materials like steel and aluminum, which are integral to its products.
Endress+Hauser’s commitment to sustainability was acknowledged at the 2024 German Sustainability Awards, where it was named a finalist in the measurement and control technology category. The award highlights the company’s pioneering efforts in ecological and social responsibility, assessed by an expert jury. Presented in Düsseldorf during the German Sustainability Day, this recognition underscores Endress+Hauser’s role as a leader in sustainable business practices, inspiring others to adopt similar strategies for climate protection.
