Magna has received its first contract to supply a Dedicated Hybrid Drive (DHD) Duo system to a prominent Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM), as hybrid solutions continue to gain traction in global electrification strategies. The DHD Duo system, which offers a longitudinal front-drive solution, features an advanced dual e-motor design with multi-speed capabilities. The high-powered 800V system ensures smooth and comfortable performance in various driving conditions, reinforcing Magna’s position as a leader in hybrid technology innovation.

Diba Ilunga, President of Magna Powertrain, commented, “Our DHD Duo system reflects our commitment to providing exceptional driving experiences that contribute to environmental sustainability. This hybrid solution combines efficiency and versatility to meet market needs and environmental targets, without compromising on performance or comfort.”

The DHD Duo addresses the integration of longitudinal hybrid systems in both passenger and commercial vehicles by using compact, integrated dog clutch technology. This allows the system to be applied across various vehicle models without requiring structural changes, offering flexibility to OEMs.

Part of Magna’s DHD Duo product line, the longitudinal front-drive system is designed to be scalable across vehicle segments, from SUVs and pickups to light buses. It offers adaptable architecture options that support different hybrid configurations, such as P1+P3, P2+P3, and range extender setups, accommodating various electric and driving modes.

By filling a gap in the market for multi-speed, longitudinal front-drive, 800V hybrid transmissions, Magna’s DHD Duo provides a versatile solution for global markets. Production is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025 at Magna’s Nanchang facility.
