GE Aerospace has been awarded a production contract to provide upgraded Integrated Data Acquisition Recorder (IDAR) systems for the U.S. Air Force’s fleet of 396 KC-135 aircraft. Deliveries are set to begin in 2026 and continue through 2031.

The contract includes enhancements to the current IDAR systems, introducing advanced components with improved capabilities such as cybersecurity features and potential data encryption, ensuring the longevity of the KC-135 fleet.

“The updated IDAR will leverage a cutting-edge, scalable real-time processor module shared across our avionics products, reducing costs for our customers,” said Matt Burns, general manager of Avionics at GE Aerospace. “Improvements include more than doubling the system’s download speed and memory capacity.”

The IDAR system collects, processes, analyzes, and stores key aircraft data, including structural, engine, maintenance, mission, and health metrics. It also serves as a crash-survivable flight data recorder, supporting programs like the Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) and Military Flight Operations Quality Assurance (MFOQA).
