FPT Industrial has been honored with the first Alternative Engine Award for its innovative XCURSOR 13, chosen by Powertrain International magazine’s jury for exemplifying a comprehensive approach to the future of sustainable mobility.

In its inaugural edition, the Alternative Engine Award sought to highlight the importance of a “multitasking vocation,” emphasizing versatility and adaptability in using various fuels—key attributes for internal combustion engines to remain relevant in the future while addressing emerging emissions challenges.

The jury recognized these qualities in the XCURSOR 13, FPT Industrial’s first multi-fuel single-base engine, engineered to operate on fuels ranging from diesel and natural gas—including biomethane for net-zero emissions—to hydrogen and renewable fuels.

Its compatibility with diverse market requirements and vehicle configurations makes it a cornerstone of FPT Industrial’s decarbonization strategy, contributing significantly to CO2 emissions reduction goals. This aligns with the company’s multi-energy approach, focused on delivering top-tier, ready-to-install products.

Built on an enhanced 13-liter engine architecture designed to meet current and future CO2 regulations, the XCURSOR 13 serves multiple segments across on- and off-road applications. It combines exceptional performance with lower weight, improved fuel efficiency, extended durability, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO).

Daniele Pozzo, Head of Marketing & Product Management at FPT Industrial, remarked, “We are honored by this recognition for our XCURSOR 13. Winning the first-ever Alternative Engine Award validates our commitment to a multi-energy strategy. The engine’s multi-fuel versatility positions it as a key player in both on-road and off-road applications, ensuring its readiness to meet evolving market needs and regulations.”

Fabio Butturi, Editor at Powertrain International, commented, “It’s fitting that FPT Industrial has won the inaugural Alternative Engine Award. With roots in pioneering electronic management systems and early common rail development, the company has been a trailblazer in natural gas applications. The XCURSOR 13, inspired by the CURSOR X multi-fuel manifesto, shares a modular design with a common crankcase and adaptable components, enabling tailored configurations for diesel, CNG, or hydrogen applications.”
