ABB has officially opened a new $100 million campus in New Berlin, Wisconsin, aiming to expand U.S. manufacturing of industrial electric drives and fulfill the Build America Buy America Act (BABAA) requirements. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by ABB employees, local officials, educational leaders, and media, marked the start of the facility’s phased launch.
“ABB is at the forefront of electrification and automation, and the U.S. is a key growth market,” said Brandon Spencer, President of ABB’s Motion Business Area. “This investment provides us with a skilled workforce, reinforces our local supply chain, and brings us closer to our customers.”
Tuomo Hoysniemi, ABB U.S. Motion Business President, added, “ABB is strengthening U.S. infrastructure and advancing clean technology to help customers improve competitiveness and reduce emissions. The facility itself is designed with sustainable features like solar power, a geothermal heat pump, modern HVAC systems, and advanced building controls, aligning with it’s 2030 sustainability targets.”
The facility’s expanded footprint will support it’s growth in its largest market, featuring a highly automated production area, a digital Customer Experience Center, and an Innovation Lab to serve U.S. customers more effectively. A new on-site warehouse will help reduce transport costs and emissions.
More than 700 employees will work at the campus, with an additional 100 positions expected over the next three years. “Partnerships between businesses, government, and educational institutions are crucial to preparing the workforce for modern manufacturing,” said Kelly Kling, Drives Site Leader and Head of Finance for its U.S. Motion Business. “STEM education will help meet the demand for electrical and mechanical engineers, contractors, and automation technicians—critical for the company, our clients, and the nation.”
With over 140 years of expertise, ABB leads in electrification and automation, promoting sustainable and resource-efficient industrial solutions. Its team of 105,000 employees worldwide is dedicated to advancing industrial transformation.
