Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) unveiled two new electric vehicles at its annual Hon Hai Tech Day on October 8, expanding its automotive lineup. The debut included the Foxtron Model D, a versatile electric MPV designed in collaboration with Italian design firm Pininfarina, and the Model U, a mid-sized electric bus aimed at urban transportation.
The Foxtron Model D is a 5.13-meter-long and 1.99-meter-wide electric Lifestyle Multipurpose Utility Vehicle (LMUV). It boasts advanced connectivity and aerodynamics, with a claimed range of over 656 kilometers (410 miles) on the WLTP test cycle, powered by a 100-120 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. The vehicle’s platform was developed by ZF Chassis Modules, in which Foxconn recently acquired a 50% stake.
Silvio Angori, CEO of Pininfarina, praised the collaboration: “We are proud to showcase a model that reflects Pininfarina’s design expertise and strengthens our partnership with Foxconn. This collaboration merges art and technology, creating a new benchmark in electric vehicles.”
Model D is a hybrid combining SUV and MPV features, equipped with an 800V powertrain and Foxconn’s latest platform technology. Its interior is designed to integrate Foxconn products, with armchairs featuring iPhone charging pads and iPad slots in the seatbacks. The vehicle also includes an adjustable active suspension system and aerodynamic design elements that reduce drag.
Foxconn and Pininfarina began their collaboration in 2021 with the luxury electric sedan Model E, followed by the Model B in 2022, a stylish urban crossover. The new Model D marks the next step in their joint effort to create a family of electric vehicles.
Felix Kilbertus, Chief Creative Officer at Pininfarina, emphasized the thoughtful design of the Model D: “We focused on maximizing interior space while maintaining a sleek, aerodynamic exterior. The Model D offers a spacious, modern cabin within a monolithic, aerodynamic body, pushing beyond traditional SUV design.” The Model D joins Foxconn’s growing lineup of electric vehicles, showcasing the company’s commitment to future mobility solutions.
