Enphase Energy, known for its solar micro-inverters, plans to expand its offerings in India by launching lithium-ion batteries by the end of this year. After debuting its battery products in Bengaluru and Kochi, the company has already received pre-sales orders and expects continued growth, having doubled its revenue in India from the previous year.

Raghu Belur, Co-Founder and Chief Products Officer at Enphase Energy, stated, “India’s market potential extends beyond our international scope, which is why we’re expanding our product range from solar inverters to lithium-ion batteries for the region.”

Currently, Enphase manufactures its lithium-ion batteries at a third-party facility in the US, but Belur hinted at the possibility of establishing a manufacturing plant in India in the future. He explained, “If India becomes a major battery market, as we anticipate, we will explore setting up a battery manufacturing facility locally.”

Addressing supply chain challenges, Belur acknowledged that sourcing lithium remains difficult, with China controlling a significant portion of the global supply. Despite these obstacles, Enphase remains committed to innovation and diversification, exploring new technologies as they become available.

Enphase has shifted much of its production out of China, with the majority of its manufacturing now based in the US. The California-based company holds a 55% market share in the US and has seen strong growth in Europe, viewing India as a key market for renewable energy expansion.

In India, Enphase operates a plant in Chennai with a production capacity of six million microinverters per year, exporting to markets in the US, Brazil, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Its Bengaluru R&D center continues to drive technological and engineering advancements. Enphase has shipped 73 million microinverters to over 150 countries globally.
