Renault-Nissan, the Franco-Japanese automotive alliance, is set to introduce six new vehicles in India, including two electric models, with a total investment of Rs 5,300 crore. This update was confirmed by Renault India’s Country CEO and Managing Director, Venkatram Mamillapalle, on Wednesday.

The alliance had previously announced an investment of USD 600 million (approximately Rs 5,300 crore) in February 2023 to support the launch of these new models and upgrades to their Chennai manufacturing plant. Mamillapalle stated that about 70-80 percent of this investment has already been utilized, and the project remains on track.

The announcement coincided with the debut of Renault’s new “Night and Day Limited Edition” variants, which are part of the company’s current product lineup. Renault India’s existing models include the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, all produced at their Oragadam facility near Chennai.

Mamillapalle emphasized the company’s commitment to its investment and innovation goals, although he refrained from specifying the exact timeline for the new product launches. The limited edition models, available in a run of 1,600 units, will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Night and Day Limited Editions come with features such as dual-tone color schemes, upgraded touchscreen displays, and distinctive design elements. The Triber’s limited edition will be priced at Rs 7 lakh, the Kiger at Rs 6,74,990, and the Kwid at Rs 4,99,500, with varying additional costs based on features.

Renault’s strong performance in southern India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, continues to drive the company’s sales. The response to the new limited edition models has been positive, especially in Kerala.

The Renault-Nissan alliance, a prominent Franco-Japanese automotive partnership, stands at the forefront of global automotive innovation and market expansion. Established to leverage the strengths of both Renault and Nissan, the alliance has a diverse portfolio encompassing conventional, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

With a commitment to sustainable mobility and technological advancement, Renault-Nissan has made substantial investments in various markets, including a recent Rs 5,300 crore initiative in India to introduce six new models and enhance production capabilities. This strategic move underscores their dedication to expanding their footprint and adapting to evolving consumer preferences while contributing significantly to the global transition towards greener transportation solutions.
