Danfoss and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) have joined forces to launch an innovative off-the-shelf heat recovery module, the HPE IT Sustainability Services – Data Center Heat Recovery. This collaboration is set to transform IT facilities by managing and valuing excess heat, thereby advancing the shift towards more sustainable operations. The integration of this system comes at a crucial time as the rapid adoption of AI technologies is expected to significantly increase power demands and necessitate AI-optimized IT infrastructures.
The International Energy Agency anticipates that by 2026, the AI industry will see its electricity demands surge tenfold compared to 2023. To address this, IT leaders are increasingly turning towards energy-efficient technologies and improved cooling systems to mitigate energy consumption. The heat recovery module by Danfoss and HPE captures and reuses heat produced by data centers, which is a reliable and clean energy source, considering the high volume of excess heat in the EU alone, which nearly matches the total energy demand for heat and hot water in residential and service sector buildings.
Ravichandran Purushothaman, President of Danfoss India, highlighted the sustainability focus of the partnership, stating, “By harnessing excess heat, we’re not only reducing energy consumption but also creating a reliable source of clean energy. Our heat reuse modules will capture and repurpose heat produced by data centers, providing a renewable energy source for heating local commercial and residential buildings.”
Jürgen Fischer, President of Danfoss Climate Solutions, expressed enthusiasm about the collaborative effort, remarking, “Our strategic partnership with HPE exemplifies how we can revolutionize the building and decarbonization of the data center industry. This new cross-industry partnership is constructing the blueprint for the next generation of sustainable data centers using today’s technologies.”
Echoing the sentiment, Sue Preston, Vice President & General Manager, WW Advisory & Professional Services & Managed Services, HPE, commented on the collaborative potential, “Our partnership with Danfoss integrates our innovative modular data center capabilities with their leading-edge heat reuse technology, multiplying value and turning waste into worth. This initiative showcases the efficient and intelligent future of energy usage that is achievable now.”
Anju Mary Kuruvilla, Director of Industry Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at Danfoss India, also commented on the impact of this partnership. She emphasized the importance of sustainability in the data-driven era, particularly for India’s rapidly expanding data center industry. Kuruvilla noted, “Danfoss, partnering with HPE as part of our holistic ‘Reduce, Reuse, Resource’ approach, will help inspire more green data centers in the nation, embedding circularity and decarbonization in them.” This alliance between Danfoss and HPE is poised to set new industry standards for energy efficiency and sustainability in data centers, leveraging advanced technologies to enhance the global shift towards greener IT solutions.
