Clean Electric, based in Pune, has unveiled a breakthrough in lithium-ion battery technology designed to charge electric two- and three-wheelers in just 12 minutes. This new rapid recharging technology marks a significant improvement from the current 60-120 minute charging times. The company’s batteries utilize universal CCS 2 DC charging standards, ensuring compatibility with all types of electric vehicles (EVs).

The technology has undergone rigorous testing, demonstrating only an 11% degradation in overall range after 3700 rapid charge cycles. According to Clean Electric, this innovation is poised to revolutionize the EV industry.

“This is a revolutionary moment for us at Clean Electric. Our 12-minute charging technology sets a new global standard that will drive the EV industry forward. We are committed to sustainability and aim to make rapid charging accessible to everyone, while ensuring long battery life and reducing environmental impact,” said Ankit Joshi, Chief Product Officer at Clean Electric.

Clean Electric plans to launch its Gen 3 batteries in the upcoming fiscal year, focusing on delivering affordable, high-energy-density batteries to enable widespread adoption of rapid charging. The startup, founded four years ago, has secured four patents in India and the US during its battery technology development journey.

“I am confident that Clean Electric will play a pivotal role in the EV ecosystem, promoting renewable energy-powered electric vehicles. We advocate ‘Design in India’ alongside ‘Make in India’ to position India as a global technology leader,” commented Akash Gupta, Co-Founder of Clean Electric.

Currently collaborating with various electric vehicle OEMs across different segments, Clean Electric aims to address critical battery-related challenges hindering mass EV adoption. The company specializes in developing and manufacturing battery storage solutions for EVs and grid applications, including liquid-cooled battery solutions for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, electric cars, and grid storage.

In October 2022, Clean Electric raised $2.2 million in seed funding led by Kalaari Capital. The investment supports advancements in battery storage solutions across vehicle categories and grid storage, alongside establishing a manufacturing facility in Pune capable of producing over 1200 battery packs per month.
