FPT Industrial Sets a New Record with the Production of its 200,000th Engine in Cordoba

FPT Industrial, the brand within the Iveco Group that specializes in developing, manufacturing, and selling environmentally friendly powertrains, has achieved another significant milestone at its Cordoba plant in Argentina. The plant recently produced its 200,000th engine, a remarkable achievement considering that it had reached the 150,000 milestone just two years prior, in September 2022.

FPT Industrial, a division of Iveco Group N.V. (EXM: IVG), specializes in developing, manufacturing, and marketing powertrains and solutions for both on- and off-road vehicles, as well as for marine and power generation applications. With a workforce of over 8,000 individuals spread across ten production facilities and eleven research and development centers worldwide, FPT Industrial operates in nearly 100 countries, providing global sales and customer service support.

Their comprehensive product range includes six engine families, offering power outputs ranging from 42 hp to over 1,000 hp, as well as transmissions capable of handling torque up to 500 Nm, and front and rear axles ranging from 2.45 to 32 tonne GAW (Gross Axle Weight). FPT Industrial boasts the most extensive lineup of natural gas engines for industrial use, delivering power outputs from 50 to 520 hp. The company’s dedicated ePowertrain division is driving progress towards zero-emissions mobility, developing electric drivelines, battery packs, and battery management systems.

Since its establishment in 2012, the Cordoba plant has been focused on manufacturing powertrains for various applications, including on-road and off-road vehicles, agricultural and construction machinery, and power generation sets. Its production lines handle the medium-sized NEF range as well as the heavy Cursor 9, 10, 11, and 13 engine versions. The 200,000th engine, a powerful Cursor 13 Euro VI, is destined for Brazil, highlighting the plant’s importance not only as a production hub within Argentina but also as an exporter. In the case of the Cursor engines, all units produced are shipped to Brazil.

The accomplishment of reaching 200,000 engines is a significant milestone celebrated by the entire team at FPT Industrial. According to Marco Rangel, Vice President of FPT Industrial for Latin America, this achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of each team member who contributes their expertise and effort to the company’s growth and advancement every day.

Rangel emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships that drive innovation and sustainability in their products, enabling them to actively participate in key industrial sectors. FPT Industrial’s major clients in Argentina, including CNH Industrial, Palmero, Caimán, IVECO, Himoinsa, Elektrogen, Powgen, and Casa Fenk, play a crucial role in the company’s success.

The milestone was achieved with the Cursor 13 engine, which features a 2,200 bar Common Rail high-pressure injection system, an electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger, and FPT Industrial’s proprietary HI-eSCR after-treatment solution, allowing it to meet Euro VI standards without requiring an EGR system. Specifically calibrated for the Brazilian market, the Cursor 13 Common Rail e-VGT offers increased agility and reliability for cargo transport.

It also introduces a new four-stage engine brake operating strategy, providing enhanced braking safety and a maximum braking power of 610 hp in the 4th stage, representing a 150 hp increase over Euro V vehicles. Additionally, the Cordoba plant serves as Iveco Group’s focal point for DOT (Driving Operations Together), a program aimed at optimizing global operations, promoting sustainability in all products and processes, and enhancing national production and company profitability.

Soledad Serral, from the DOT Department in Argentina, highlighted FPT Industrial’s continued strengthening in both domestic and international markets, attributing it to their commitment to quality, innovation through DOT, and strategic partnerships. She emphasized that their dedication to delivering high-performance products remains the cornerstone of their success.

DOT represents a comprehensive corporate vision centered on achieving results, fostering a proactive and accountable ethos across the organization. It is underpinned by a set of fundamental principles—accountability, customer commitment, teamwork, innovation, trust, implementation simplicity, and agility—that resonate throughout all aspects of the business. In essence, DOT is poised to become a pivotal force in enhancing not just production processes but the entire operational landscape, aiding in the attainment of organizational objectives and instilling a fresh culture of excellence.
